I have been called five times to present testimony to federal parliamentary and senate committees including testimony on my research and published scholarly work on the ion scanner (see video). This research has attracted international and national media attention with my commentary appearing in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Philadelphia Examiner, the Globe and Mail, among other news outlets, and in periodicals Prison Insider and Prison Legal News.
In addition to my parliamentary testimony and commentary in news media I have published several opinion pieces.
From Brandon University's CARES Research Centre, Dr. Michelle Lam and Dr. Jacqueline Kirk host the Leaning In and Speaking Out podcast. On this episode, they are joined by Dr. Stacey Hannem and Dr. Christopher Schneider to discuss their book, Defining Sexual Misconduct.
Presentation of my chapter "The Ion Mobility Spectrometry Device and Risk Management in Canadian Federal Correctional Institutions" in my book Security and Risk Technologies in Criminal Justice.
I argue that the IonScan technology masquerades as an objective determination of risk in a theatre of prison security, in fact, the IonScan is neither discriminatory enough to identify individuals who are actually carrying drugs, nor does it prevent drugs from entering prisons.
